Baby Steps continue!

Everyday gets a lil better for our girl!
She has not "tossed her cookies" today! That my friends, is a VERY big deal and I should hear you cheering! She's gonna get a shot of Neulasta to help maintain her WBC.
Last time it was a 4 and they don’t want it ANY lower than that! Liquid potassium has been added to her intake because she was a little low. Other than that she is pluggin along.
I almost forgot! On a Super De Duperty happy note...yesterday she made it outside long enough to see Hailey learn to ride her bike all by herself, as well as watching Brady training to beat Lance Armstrongs cycling records! Watch out Mr. Armstrong, Brady is right on your tail!;)

Til next time faithful Soldiers....

1st Days Home After Round 2

Our girls has not been feelin so hot! She was really struggling yesterday with nausea and vomiting, and in general, her body was just not cooperating! Because of this, she missed opening day of baseball for Brady and Hailey:( Brian ran between the house to check on Robynn and the ball field/parade/pictures etc to watch the kids. What a scramble!
She should be getting her blood drawn today to check her levels, but we won't get the results immediately like we do in the hospital.
Today she feels, "not great, but better"! Baby steps!!!

Love to all!

Round 2 Chemo DONE!

Praise the Lord!
Her blood levels have remained where we want them and they have calmed down the nausea! We hope she will get to come home later today! WOO HOO!

I apologize for not sending out another post yesterday like I said I would. I have a perfectly good explanation that I will get into later, that was all Hailey's fault!(yes, I am blaming this on a 6 year old;) Anyways, when Sleeping Beauty woke up, she was feeling much better. I put some make-up on her, put on a super soft periwinkle blue hat given to Robynn by an Amazing woman and 2 time cancer survivor Mrs. Brown. When she was all beautified, we headed for the halls! Still sore from our previous marathon, I forged on as our girls faithful "IV Pusher". I'm not sure if it came from Robynn or the good Lord himself, but someone had mercy on me and only allowed about 5 laps to take place. Whew! That was a relief! Robynn tried to eat some cereal but that didn't stay down, so we opted for some humor and watched 4 episodes of The Office as a distraction. I am ashamed to say it was quite enjoyable...off-color and totally inappropriate, but very enjoyable! While Robynn and I sat on the couch, Brian commandeered Robynn's bed. Every once in a while we would look over to find Brian snoozing and just giggle with delight. Later, we had a 4 legged visitor named Mr. Bo Jangles. He was a beautiful Australian Shepard trained to cheer up patients or just bring them some companionship for a brief moment. He worked like a charm! It was pretty funny at first, because when Mr. B. J. walked in Brian is laying in Robynn's bed. This was confusing to Mr. B. J. because Robynn was calling him over to her and Mr. B.J. is trained to go to the bed for his visit. He was unbelievably intuitive and realized very quickly Robynn was the one he was there to see. He laid by her and enjoyed his massage from our very grateful girl! It was very sweet. We let Mr. Bo Jangles owners know when Robynn would be back and asked that they come find her for another visit and they agreed.

So back to the thing that is all Hailey's fault....oh yeah....I almost forgot! Since I have been here this time, my mom has not been here to help out with the kids like before. This means Auntie gets a snuggle buddy every night! This is not the problem! Auntie LOVES snuggle buddies, but this particular snuggle buddy always wants Auntie to go bed when she goes to bed(7pm,Sharp!) As you can imagine, I have things to do when I get them to bed and reassure my S.B. I will be in soon! Last night was my last night here until I return for the blood drive, so I promised my little S.B. that I would go to bed with her! Being the sneaky Auntie I am, I was going to wait for her to fall asleep and I'd hop back up and do what I needed to do! WRONG! Once I was down...I was out and when I did wake back up I was NOT going anywhere! So that's why you did not have an update last night and why it's ALL a 6 year old, named Hailey's fault!
I blame the kid! It's my story and I'm stickin to it!

Pray On and Rejoice for another treatment down!

love to all,
S

Round 2, almost done!

Our sweet girl is in a drug induced slumber. She has been struggling mightily with nausea and vomiting. They are trying a new avenue to get this under control. She is receiving 2 units of blood as her hemoglobin dropped to 8.5. Based on our prior experience with unending transfusions and the complications, my immediate response was total panic!!!! However, there was a reasonable explanation given for the drop that shouldn't lead to the miserable cycle we encountered in Round 1.

So, here's my best translation....the chemo is very destructive to Robynn's entire system and it is pummeling her bone marrow. When the bone marrow is attacked, it can't be as vigilant with reproducing new blood. It doesn't stop producing 100%, but it slows down production enough to require a transfusion. So far there is no evidence of blood draining into her tummy like before and that is a HUGE relief!

I'll let you know how Sleeping Beauty feels when she wakes up!

Pray On!
XOXO,

Standing Strong!

That's our girl!
Today she got to enjoy some YUMMY cookies overnighted from Sweet Surrrender and is now awaiting dinner from P.F.Changs. SPOILED BRAT!!!(did I say that out loud?;)
She was eager to walk the halls and being the trusted "IV pusher", I joined her! If she had been upfront with me about the distance she was planning on going, I might have enlisted someone elses help. I'm tellin you, I haven't moved so far, so fast since I can't remember! When it was FINALLY over, I was panting and could have used an oxygen mask and probably a medic! We get back to her room and all I want to do is hop into her bed! Don't worry, I do have SOME self control and even a little pride:)

Anyways, I thought about the fact that Robynn is doing so much better and I am so grateful! However, I probably tend to ask for your Super Duper prayers when thing are pretty bad and want to take the time to PRAISE our wonderful Lord for giving Robynn this amazing progress! Send your Super Duper prayers no matter what our plight! He Is The Way and deserves ALL the Glory...Always!

You ROCK "Army Goodell"!

I love you,
S

PS Get your armor ready for Robynn's Blood Drive next Friday, April 4th!

Harlan Hans Hansen

1919-2008

Robynn and Jenni have very fond memories of milking cows and hanging out on their grandfather's dairy farm in Ferndale, CA. Their grandfather was an excellent example of hard work and determination. He owned 3 Farmers Insurance Group agencies while working every day on his dairy farm. He passed away yesterday and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Please keep the entire Hansen family in your prayers.

Round 2/day 2

Our girl Robynn is taking this round like a Champ! She struggles a little with nausea, but for the most part, she's doing fantastic. She has been sleeping off all the pain meds she was given yesterday to help her tolerate her tummy tap. They drained a little over a litre and don't see any other fluid in her abdomen. Her distended tummy is now from hardened blood that needs to break down and be reabsorbed. It looks 100 times better than a couple weeks ago...that was just unbelievable!
She is pretty tender from the procedure, but continues to walk the halls and keep down more and more food! Go Robynn, Go!

We all know how precious Robynn is to us, but I wanted to share how she touches those new in her life. Since Robynn has started treatments at Sutter-Roseville, her infectious smile/laugh and positive attitude has touched those who are in charge of her care. Almost every department including transportation, housekeeping, food delivery, radiation, nursing assistants and nurses have fallen for our girl. She has received many cards and yesterday upon her return, the nurses/nurses assistants who switch off caring for Robynn brought her a beautiful ceramic angel, a floppy turquoise sun hat and a great big super cute travel bag for her back and forth trips to her "other home". How sweet is that!!!??? To top it off they have figured out the blog and are able to see how she's doing when she is away from them. Who else could inspire such a following? She really is a most precious gift to all of us!

I'm off to pick up Hailey and head to the hospital...write ya soon faithful soldiers!

Pray on,

Round 2

She got into her room at 11am yesterday, but didn't get started on 1st batch of chemo til 11:30pm. The 2nd chemo drug(we refer to it as The Red Devil:) was added at 2:30am and has to run continuously for 72 hours. When this is complete, they will take one more day to just keep an eye on how she's doing. So far, she is tolerating the chemo very well. Her tummy is still a little distended, but her body does seem to be reabsorbing the blood that had escaped. This is evident by the severe bruising that wraps around her right side, back and down her leg. Her left side is not responding the same and is much tighter when you touch it. We hope that when that pocket is drained, both sides will be more even and closer to disappearing completely!

She is trying to get some rest. The nurses were in and out all night and that makes it extremely hard to get much sleep.

Sweet dreams, sweet Robynn......

Pray for peace, rest and comfort!

What a Weekend!

What a wonderful time was had yesterday!

The Easter bunny hid baskets and Easter eggs and left a birthday cake that resembled himself. Later in the afternoon Brady found an egg upstairs with Robynn's name on it that contained a $100 bill....Sneaky lil someone??? We got all dressed up and headed to get Will baptized. He was so adorable in his long vintage Christening gown. He smiled and jabbered in Brian's lap throughout mass and then it was over. Did we miss something? When was Will getting baptized? Oops!

Father Jos got so into celebrating the resurrection that he forgot about Will. No worries... he immediately baptized Will with just our intimate group of family and friends. When that ended, everyone headed back to Brian and Robynn's for lunch, birthday cake and presents. Talk about SPOILED! That girl of ours got it ALL! It seemed like we opened presents/cards for hours. Jenny and Derek made her the cutest coaster set that transferred some of Robynn's favorite pictures to a piece of tumble stone tile. DARLING! Her mom got her a facial and had an old, old, old picture of Jenny and Robynn when they must have lived on the prairie and next door to Mary and Laura Ingles. PRICELESS! We got her 2 Web Cam's so she can talk w/ the kids when they are away from her. She got a beautiful plaque from the Harkers that read "What is a friend? A single soul, dwelling in 2 bodies", GORGEOUS handmade scarfs, hats, books and tons more! I think the most precious gift was that of 3 videos that were filmed by Brandy, Kelly and Tim and edited/put together by Bill Haines. One was of multiple families, friends and strangers from Bakersfield sending Robynn their love and prayers. The other 2 were of a song that was written/composed and performed by Robynn's niece Callahan and the other was a her nephew Tanner, dancing like a "Rockstar". She was brought to tears and touched so deeply by all who participated...THANK YOU!

After everything settled down we got manicures from Jenny and got another surprise...Brian and Brady with bald heads almost as BEAUTIFUL as Robynn's! Even Hailey was pushing to have her head shaved, but an ever so bright Brian resisted! Thank the Lord!

It really was EVERYTHING Robynn could have hoped for! Thank you everyone who contributed to such a special day for our girl!

They now are headed to the hospital and I will join them when "Miss P"(Hailey) gets out of school. Until then......

"Army Goodell"you are the BEST!

A "Slacker"No More!

I've been called a lot of names, but we won't get into that!;)

The kids and I arrived in West Sacramento yesterday to find our girl as Gorgeous and dolled up as ever! We played with all her new wigs/hats and had MANY laughs as even Brady, Tanner and Brian joined in. What a sight we were! Later, we got to go to Brady and Hailey's baseball practice, and see the Goodell's competitive genes in action.

We are now busy gearing up for Easter, Robynn's Birthday and Will's Baptism.
When Monday comes, it's back to the hospital for Round 2 and I will have a laptop to keep you updated on her every move!;)

Thank you so much for all your support!
Happy Easter!

Sending you BIG hugs from Robynn!

THANKFUL THURSDAY II

Yes,we are back to "Thankful Thursday"! We are very thankful that our girls' blood levels have been so good, that they don't have to drive to Roseville everyday anymore! They will recheck her levels when she starts round 2 of chemo on Monday.
She did find some really cute hats that I'm hoping to show off to you guys! As far as wigs, she is sporting the Katie Holmes look (short bob). She had a minor disaster with another wig. I guess she wanted her wig to have some curl, so she grabbed her curling iron and Yikes, it turned out to not be curling iron friendly! Oops! Oh well!;)

Some other exciting news is that William Michael Harker will be baptized on Easter Sunday at Our Lady of Grace in West Sacramento. Who might his PROUD Godparents be?????
None other than Robynn and Brian! What an incredible Sunday this is going to be!
We have so many reasons to celebrate, rejoice, give praise and thanks!
Lets get this Party started!

"Army Goodell", you are AWESOME!

She's a Maniac, Maniac on the bike.....

and she's peddlin like I've never seen before!
Yes, that was my altered rendition of one of our favorite Flashdance songs.
Thank you...Thank you very much!(in my best Elvis voice)
Since our girl can't sit still, she has taken to riding a stationary bike. I'll be the first to say, I couldn't put the miles on that bike she put on these past few days if my life depended on it! She's a MANIAC...No doubt!
I don't have a desire to have any exertion in my life and would find these circumstances to be the perfect opportunity to make that permanent!;) Not our girl!!!

With that said, she is still doing Maaaaavelous !(Billy Crystal)

Whatever you're doing is working soldiers...pray on!

Happy St. Patty's Day!!!

You can start your Irish jig right now!

Robynn, Brian, Brady had a FABULOUS weekend together! Her blood levels have not just held their own...they have gotten better as each day passes!(that's the way ahuh, ahuh,I like it ahuh, ahuh)

"Newman" is still as annoying as his brothers, but doesn't seem to be causing quite as much discomfort. Robynn does not want to mess with anything right now since things are so good, so she's gonna hold out til Monday to get her tummy drained again.

In case you were wondering what this "Super Fam" was up to this weekend, I'll fill ya in on what I know;

They had a snuggle/slumber party, bobbed for apples, (Hailey's request)played baseball in the backyard, went shopping and went to church. Last night Hailey kept trying to catch the leprechauns, but was unsuccessful. Her Dad did catch them and locked them away in the bathroom til morning. When Brady and Hailey threw the door open, all they found was the pile of gold they left behind...better luck next year guys!;) Robynn was filled with joy and laughter when I talked to her about this weekend. She even joked about her trash can being "full of hair". They were going hat shopping today as well as trying on some different wigs. Because her hair comes out in clumps, she was getting the totally bald look via Brian! Careful w/ those clippers Bro!

That's enough for now! Gotta save some stuff for later to keep you wanting more!:P
Pace yourself on the Green Beer!

Pray on faithful soldiers!

Big Irish XOXO's comin your way,
S

Guess who????

If you guessed, Shelley...you win!
I guess, I was afraid of the withdrawls that could take place if you didn't hear from me today, so here I am!:)

There were a couple things I was gonna let you know about regarding what will happen this week and next. Brian and Robynn will be making daily trips back to Roseville-Sutter to get blood draws, have her Pic line flushed and and keep an eye on Norm and Neds evil triplet Newman. Her tummy has continued to fill up, but they only like to drain it when it is absolutely necessary. When she went in on Thursday they found another pocket(Newman) that was filling up. Because of its close location to a main artery they left it alone and only drained Norm's old stomping ground. If she cannot maintain her blood levels she will have to get blood transfusions as an outpatient. Her WBC is AWESOME, so no more abnormal worries about her catching something and not being able to fight it.
Sunday is Robynn's birthday as well as Easter so there should be much celebrating going on in her and Our Saviors honor! When the party ends, it's back for round 2 of chemo on Monday.
I think that's all I got on what will be happening with our girl unless she throws us another curve ball, which she seems to do quite often! Hmmm, I wonder if she just likes to keep us on our toes?

On another subject, I just wanted to tell you all how honored I am to be keeping you updated. There have been days when I am so distressed by watching Robynn suffer that I can't find any words for you. I will sit and pray that He will help me find them. He has yet to let me down(well, I can't speak to the eloquence of my words but He gave me something to work with;)
My point is, when I'm having a tough day, all I have to do is read what you send to Robynn and sometimes even to me and my purpose is reaffirmed! Thank you for that! Our girl deserves the ones she loves to know how she's doing and in return she deserves your words of prayer, support, encouragement and love on a daily basis!

Now for the really tough part...after 3 weeks with Robynn and Brian, I have gone back home. Robynn insisted that I too needed to go be a Mom again! I will remain in Bakersfield til next Friday then I'll return to Sacramento...celebrate through the weekend and finish up with round 2 of chemotherapy. I don't mind telling you leaving Robynn, my brother, Brady and Hailey was one of the toughest things I've ever had to do! Don't misunderstand the fact that I love my children dearly, but the 3 of us talked things over when she 1st got sick and we came to a unanimous decision that Aunt Robynn needed me more right now. I have had a wonderful support system to help with the kids and my job since I've been gone. Aunt Robynn and Uncle Brian have been so special to Cal and Tanner their entire lives. Callahan has even tried to bargain her way to spending the night with Robynn and Brian in the hospital so she could help take care of her Aunt Robynn herself.

I'm leaving you all with the most perfect image...Robynn "being a mom again" and the 4 of them getting to be a family!

If that doesn't make you drop to your knees in Thanks and Praise, I don't know what will!

You are the BEST army ever assembled! Battle on! Pray on!

Homeward Bound!

SHE DID IT!
She is minutes from arriving to surprise Brady and Hailey!
They finally get their "family" weekend!

So you know what that means don't cha???
No phone calls, texts or visitors til Monday! You will not even be getting updates from me because I am on restriction as well! I lived most of my life on on restriction(nothing from the peanut gallery), so I think I can handle it!:P

So there's your marching orders! Pray without interference for 2 days! Who knows what miracles could take place!

Our family values each one of you and feel so honored to have you as part of "Army Goodell"

Pray on good soldiers!

Til Monday...

Back on our knees!

Please pray that Robynn's blood levels will improve. She is receiving 2 units of blood and plasma this morning because her hemoglobin dropped to a 7.7. We are waiting to see what her Dr. has to say about this latest little setback.

This is discouraging but not hopeless!
Pick up your weapons, bow down and be heard!

Our girl WILL be home soon!

Thankful Thursday!

This was something I got from our Aunt Nini and I just wanted to pass it on...

Philippians 4:13 --- I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

The road to success is not straight. There is a curve called Failure, a loop called Confusion, speed bumps called Friends, red lights called Enemies, caution lights called Family. You will have flats called Jobs. But, if you have a spare called Determination, an engine called Perseverance, insurance called Faith, a driver called Jesus, you will make it to a
place called Success.

Please check out the link below to find out another way to help Robynn!
A HUMONGOUS thumbs up to Kim Funk and Vanessa Scroggins for taking this ball and sprinting with it!

http://raisingforrobynn.blogspot.com/

Robynn is still holding her own w/ her blood levels. An extra WOO HOO is in order for her WBC that jumped up to 7.5! Let me hear you shout.....WOO HOO!

She is now being whisked away to have Norm's evil twin,"Ned "aspirated from her belly. Please pray this will be the last time she will need this procedure, as the pressure causes her extreme pain and uncomfortableness.

Love you all!

HE IS the Way!

I will say nothing more than Robynn's blood draw after 24 hours w/out a blood transfusion is:

WBC= 3.5
Hemoglobin=9.6
Platelets=107,000

You can see that He IS so VERY GOOD!

Rejoice in thanks and prayer,
S

Keep it comin....

Our girl is workin overtime!
She has received NO BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS in the past 16 hours and her hemoglobin is 9.7 (up from 8.7 and needs to be right around there), WBC is 1.8 (up from .6 and needs to be at least 2), and lastly, her platelets are 96000 (need to be over 100,000)
I have NEVER pretended to be a Mathematician, but I'm pretty sure these numbers mean she is almost HOME BOUND!
What an amazing leap in our favor! (celebration song of choice blares in background)
Three cheers for our girl...
Hip Hip Hooray!
Hip Hip Hooray!
Hip Hip Hooray!

Well, I am not going to waste my time on the computer when I get to spend time with Robynn today! Brian had some things to take care of and Jenny and Robynn's mom are sick:(get better girls!!!) I'm feelin quite giddy about this opportunity...gotta run!

See ya "SUCKA"!

Time to start your home cheers again!!! Some cartwheels, hand stands, big kicks etc are more than appropriate! The CT scan they took yesterday revealed that our girl is responding to last weeks chemo! The 2 large tumors that cause her the most problems have decreased 1-2 cm and ALL other lesions have had some shrinkage!
"CEL-A -BRATE GOOD TIMES COME ON! "IT'S A CELEBRATION" Sing along, you know the words! Robynn would be expecting us to "bust a move"and/or "break it down"!

She still needs her blood levels to improve, but we'll rely on "baby steps":)

She has a looooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggg road ahead, but she is up for the challenge!

Please give PRAISE and THANKS for today's blessed news!

BIG Robynn hugs,
S

Thunder stealer!:P

It just has to be ALL ABOUT ROBYNN! She gets ALL the glory!
She just has to "one up" us all on a daily basis. Alright Chick, that's enough!
We got the "memo" on how extraordinary you are...no need to rub our nose in it!;))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) You and Brian's posts put me to shame! I mean how do I follow the 2 of you? It's very bad for my self-esteem! Take it easy on me would ya!!??
I guess it's nothing a few happy pills+cocktails can't cure!
So why the heck am I whining? OK, I'm better now! hehe

Most of you obviously know how fabulous Robynn and Brian were before all this started. But if you are like me, you must sit in AWE when you see how they have responded to these deplorable circumstances. It not only renews my faith in the Lord, but it renews my faith in this world. What I have witnessed from all of you, as well as perfect strangers is an absolute PHENOMENON!

For the record, my brother did not just become who you read about in this blog since this disease showed up. He has been the same son, brother, grandson, cousin, uncle, husband, father and friend since God chose that he join us here on earth. He has always gone the extra mile to show the ones he loves they are what is most important to him.
In walk Robynn 12 years ago...Brian's PERFECT mirror! Someone as honorable and filled with what is good, far beyond what most of us expect to see in our lives. What has happened in the past 2 months is no accident! I believe God chose Brian and Robynn very carefully. The effect this is having on all of our lives would not have been accomplished by using anyone else. What
better example of love, faith, courage, perseverance, grace and devotion than that of which Robynn and Brian display daily. Do I wish God had chosen another couple...you BETCHA! But I know in my heart, we might not have paid attention!

You have our Full Attention Dear Lord, please show us how to use it for Your Glory!

I love you all for the support you have each have given our family! Our cup overflows!

Battle on faithful warriors!

ROBYNN ROCKS!!!

My wife is an absolute Rock Star. Let me tell you why! After starting out her day not able to take a deep breath and vomiting; in so much pain she needed extra pain medication; going through a battery of tests (abdominal CT & Chest/AB/Pelvis CT with contrast) and topping it off with her first round of Radiation, guess how she closed out her evening????????

Doing THREE laps around the oncology ward (she could have done more but I made her stop); ate a good meal and kept it all down; and finished DANCING OUR WEDDING SONG with me. No there were no twists, turns, or flips like the Oxfords (Scott and Michelle you 2 rock), but I’m sure it was only because she had all the tubes holding her back and me as her partner. :)

But on a more serious note she truly is amazing and she continues to show me and all of the people in the oncology unit just that. Everyone here is amazed and drawn to her, from doctors, to nurses, to transport workers, to nurses assistants. They come to her room, they stop her in the halls as she’s carted throughout the hospital, and they wave her down as she does her laps.

There’s just something about MY WIFE and OUR GIRL and we should all consider ourselves honored and privileged to have her in our lives! I know I definitely do and I thank God for her daily!

Robynns Adoring Husband!

Radiation begins!

She has conquered her first round of Radiation! Yippee Skippee! That beast is "Goin Down"!!!!
She will continue this treatment for 4 more days.
Her transfusions seem to give her a little boost of pep and her new regimen makes her a little more comfortable.
Please pray that the new orders put in place will keep our girl on track to make more progress and keep her from suffering unnecessarily!!!

Love to all,
S

Baby Steps!

Well friends, I must be honest and tell you today has not been a great day for our girl:(

She has been experiencing pain on the right side of her chest when she breathes, bouts of nausea and in a general feeling pretty yucky!

They have discontinued Factor 7 and are going to try Radiation to shrink the tumors. The hope is that when the tumors are smaller they will require less blood supply from Robynn and then her blood loss will decrease. They did a CT scan earlier today to figure out how to go about this procedure and were hoping to get it done this afternoon.

Her Oncologist increased her pain patch to a higher does, ordered blood monitoring every 8 hours with blood & plasma transfusions administered as needed, started her on a new anti-nausea medication as well as some IV antibiotics and wants to control her pain with medication hourly. She will continue to get Neupagen to help increase her white blood cell count as well.

Even though it pains us to not have her home, we know she is where she needs to be. The threat of infection is so great and we just can't put her at risk! Getting her stabilized and strong is our ONLY goal at this point. Remember the movie 'What About Bob'?..."Baby steps"!
We will "baby step" forever, if it keeps our girl on the right path!

Pray! Pray Pray!

XOXO,
S

Thank You from Robynn's Mom!!!

Thank you to everyone for your love and support. Reading these comments gives us all strength and a feeling that we are not alone. It helps me to be reminded how important it is to be kind and caring to others "paying it forward" as Robynn always says. Thanks from the bottom of my heart to Brian for being our Rock. We all rely on you to keep us all informed. I can sleep at night knowing you are by my daughter's side through all this. She is blessed to have such a devoted, loving husband. My heart goes out to everyone who is on this journey with us. ~ Robynn's Mom

Feeling the love!

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all of the love and support you are showering me with. Everyday, throughout the day, Brian reads your comments to me and it is truly the highlight of my day. The spiritual notes bring me a wonderful sense of peace. The fun stories from childhood make me smille. The stroll down memory lane from junior high and high school just completely crack me up. I am so touched that all of my old friends have not forgottem me, because I sure have not forgotten you! Thank you for all of the sweet friends I have made as an adult. I hold you all so fondly in my heart. I hope that I have always done all that I can to ensure you all knew how much you have meant to me, because I have always wanted people to know how I feel truly feel about them. Life is too short not to share your feelings and express your love for eachother.

Lastly, I am so grateful that everyone has been able to see what a wonderful family I have. I am truly blessed. My children are caring, spiritual, brilliant, thoughtful, and funny (obviously they get the latter from me). My husband does not leave my side and has slept in uncomfortable hospital chairs and couches, just to ensure that I am never alone. He is an amazing man and for those of you who do not know him, I wanted to you know how truly lucky I am.

Thank you again for all of your prayers, stories, support, and love. It is overwhelming and wonderful!
All my love and gratitude,
Robynn

Things are lookin up!

I almost hate to title this, for fear of jinxing our girl, but we must rejoice and be thankful for even the smallest of blessings!

Today, she kept lunch and dinner down! Hip Hip Hooray!

Recently, when she had trouble keeping her food down, there was no nausea, just the tumor disallowing space in her tummy. Today she beat the "beast" and she's gonna continue to get the best of him!

Her hemoglobin is a 10.3 after her last transfusion and her Neutropenia level was a .9(needs to be a 2 or better to not have restrictions on room and visitors). She also took a stroll around the hall with her nifty little mask to protect her from any harmful germs. She got another dose of Factor 7 to help prevent blood loss and will continue to get shots of Neupagen to build up her white blood cells.
The bottom line is, she is NOT deterred and continues to fight with strength that I most of the time cannot find!
She puts us all to shame... NO doubt about it!

We are adding a picture of Robynn with her "Prayer Quilt" that was put in motion by Kelly and Brandy Brown...aka Haines/Starr. Kelly sewed every piece with hope and love and Brandy bound it in prayer! I am keeping this picture as my "wallpaper" on my phone so that I am reminded of our girls perfect smile, continuous battle and unfaltering faith! I ask you to do the same!

Robynn will be constantly wrapped in God's goodness and our unending prayer!

Take that!!!

Love you all!

God Bless You All!!!

Robynn and I wanted to tell you how incredible you all are and how BLESSED we feel. The Love, Prayers, and Support are overwhelming. We knew we had a great support system around us but never thought for a second it was anywhere close to what we are experiencing.

As for the comments that you are leaving, please keep them coming. Please know that I read every one of them to Robynn. It is one of the first things we do when she wakes and one of the last things we do before she sleeps. They really do mean so much to her and she looks so forward to hearing them.

Thank you all for your strength and know that despite the difficult times Robynn is experiencing she is so strong and continues to be determined to get back to her life of being a Mom, Wife, Daughter, Sister, and Friend very soon!

Forever Grateful,

Robynn & Brian

I leave it to Him...

We did not get any of the breaks that we had hoped for, but that means NOTHING!
I am going to bed in prayer and will allow a new day to be representive of our faith!

Sweet dreams and stay strong for our girl!!!

S

Knock us down, but know we will GET UP!

It is a strain to say "good morning", but I'm gonna say it anyway! Good Morning!
We are waiting for the results of her morning blood draw to see if her transfusions helped.
We received more bad news when we were told she has developed Neutropenia.

What Is Neutropenia?
There are many types of white blood cells, each with specific roles, but their main job is to fight infection. Neutropenia is a condition in which there are very low amounts of white blood cells in the body, especially neutrophils. Neutrophils are abundant in a healthy person, making up about 70 percent of all white cells in the body. Since white blood cells attack harmful bacteria, viruses, and fungi, neutropenia increases the risk of infections.

As a result of this condition, she can have no flowers, plants, fresh fruit or veggies. Visitors are extremely limited and anyone entering her room must take major precautions to limit the transfer of germs. If she wants to walk the halls she must be masked. They usually will administer antibiotics to help her body fight possible infections, but risk her building a resistance to them as well.
Brian will be the only one with her for a while. We expect this precaution will give her the least exposure to harm.

I wish I had something better to report, but I am hopeful that we will have just the littlest bit of good news on our girl today! I don't even have to be with her to know she is taking this news like a champ! I have no doubt she continues to smile and looks to God to help her battle on!!!

Chin up warriors!

XOXO,
S

Faith and Hope will NOT be taken from us!

It pains me more than you'll know, to have to tell you that Robynn's last blood draw came back a 7.9(down from 9.3 this morning) :( She is receiving 2 more units of blood as we speak and will get rechecked first thing tomorrow.

We are very sad and discouraged but not defeated!!!
Please continue to keep our girl at the top of your prayer list!

Get some rest. ..we have lots of battling ahead!

Love,
S

1 down...2 to go!

We just finished a couple laps around the halls and now our girl is napping so sweetly! She ate a good breakfast and lunch and even showered all by herself and put on her own makeup. Now that's progress!:)
In order for her to go home and "be a Mom again"(her #1 wish) she needs to ace 2 more blood tests! The one this morning is 1 of 3 that need to stay close to 9.3. If she can pull it off at 5pm today and 5am tomorrow she can go home! YIPEE!

You have your next mission...get on it!

Big Robynn Hugs!
S

Lucky # 7!!!!!!!

The number 7 has always held a special place in our hearts, because of our cousin Dennis who left us nine years ago. As soon as I heard the name of the medicine (Factor 7) that they were going to give her, I just knew this could be our BIG break and that Dennis was pullin some strings in Heaven!
When I left last night her hemoglobin was a 9.7 and I was thrilled! The real test was gonna be if she could hold close to that number overnight on her own.
I am LEAPING WITH JOY to report her blood draw this morning tested at a 9.3!
Hip Hip Hooray! Hallelujah! Yippee! Hoo Ha! Please feel free to add your own favorite cheer!;)

Thank you ALL for your endless prayers and thank you "D" for calling in some favors up there!

Big xoxo's,
S

On our knees...

Robynn did get some really good sleep last night that was not drug induced...HOORAY!

However, she has run into another complication. The blood that they have been giving her is not keeping up w/ the blood that is seeping into her abdomen. Her hemoglobin is extremely low and her belly is filling back up. This morning she had an Angiogram to see if they could find the bleeding vessels and shut them down. This was not possible, because of the shape that the vessels take on due to Angiosarcoma. Her vessels take on a spiral shape so a catheter cannot get through to make this procedure a success. Their second option is to administer a super duper clotting medication called Factor 7 to control the multiple bleeds. If this is not a success, they can hopefully radiate the bleeding vessels and shut them down.
Our final option is surgery. As you can imagine, surgery poses a HUGE risk to our sweet girl and we would hope for any other alternative.

She is flat on her back til 6:45 tonight because of the Angiogram, but I'm happy to report she is nausea free! Our daily ritual is being maintained with her hair and makeup getting done and she is looking as gorgeous as ever!
As always, her spirit and faith is unfaltering! She continues to smile and keep us smiling even when faced with countless set backs!
She truly is AMAZING!

Please...back on your knees and pray for a sustainable outcome!

BIG Robynn Hugs,
S

Good Night Sweet Robynn!

I am to the moon and back with happiness to report that I got to leave the hospital before the sun was down for the 1st time because our girl was ready for some more peaceful rest!!!!!
What a blessing! We all should Rejoice...Rejoice!
I sang all the way back to West Sacramento, because seeing her without suffering was all I needed to be happy!

I love you all!

S

P.S. We read EVERY comment and feel bad we can't respond to each and every one. Please know we cherish all the prayers, support, hope and love you send our way...keep it comin!
Also glad to know we can still laugh and have you laugh with us! xoxo

Blood Source ID

Her ID is P906

They can also look her up w/ the correct spelling of her name;

Robynn Goodell

It's a boy!

I am happy to announce the birth of Naughty Norm! He weighed in at 4.6 litres and had an unmeasurable length. Mom is doing WONDERFULLY and is now resting peacefully! Yes, you heard me correctly...peacefully! Her discomfort was instantly relieved upon his birth. We are so happy with Mom's progress!
Norm on the other hand, did not fare as well. And you were right Brandy, he was ugly(I won't speak to who he looked like, except to tell you it wasn't Robynn) We regret to inform you, that Norm did not make it. Please don't fret too much, as Mom and Dad seem to be taking this exceptionally well!;)

Watching her sleep in peace gives me an indescribable joy that I just must pass on to all of you! Thank you so mush for making sure God heard our prayers! We have lots for Him to hear, but we will praise Him for what He has done so far!!!

Will let you know how Robynn is doing when she wakes up...

XOXO,
S

Still waiting.........

She just left for her procedure.. There was an emergency in ICU that took precedent. She is still wrestling w/ nausea and vomiting, but is staying strong!

While we were waiting we were talking about something that I don't think I've posted on the blog and would remind you of Robynn's fabulous sense of humor. When her tummy started to swell it wasn't too alarming, but eventually it grew tremendous in size. We joked about looking like she was ready to give birth and so we figured it was only fitting to give this "evil baby" a name. When I asked if it should be a girl or a boy, she immediately responded with,
"only a man could cause this kind of pain"! I then blurted out "Norm"! "Norm it is" Robynn replied. So we ask "Norm" to be nice to his Momma and"come out and see Auntie". We are constantly reprimanding Norm for causing his Momma so much pain!
Even faced with this miserable experience, she chooses laughter over desperation!
That's our girl!!!

When she returns I will be happy to announce the birth of Norm and an update on his courageous Momma!

Pray on!
XOXO,
S

SHE DID IT!

Her blood clotting levels were 15.5 ...HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That tummy is goin "DOWN"!(literally);)
I can't tell you how much better that will mkae our girl feel. She is scheduled to go in at 8am. Please keep her in your prayers as always!

Big smooches,
S

Our Amazing Callahan!

Sometimes the simplest of things can really mean the most. Our precious Callahan captured this so well in a poem she wrote and posted for Robynn called "SMILE" After numerous people at the hospital heard and were touhed by it we felt it necessary to bring it to everyones attention to enjoy. Thank you Callahan!
Love, Uncle Brian and Aunt Robynn

Smile.
Smile often.
Smile proud.
Smile wisely
Or,
For no reason at all.

Smile so it can turn to laughter.
Smile so that it hides the tears.
Smile at your friends.
Smile bigger at your enemies,
In hopes they will become your friend.

Smiles are like escapes,
They save you.
When hopes are fallen,
And faith is low,
They catch you.
They’re proof that life can improve,
Proof of kindness in people.

Smile to catch those
With fallen hopes and faith.
Smile because you love her.
Smile because he loves you.
Smile with innocence of the unknown future.
Smile with confidence of the present.
Smile.

Smile often.
Smile to escape.
Smile…….
Just to smile.

Blood donations II

Robynn has received whole blood, platelets and plasma. She mostly gets whole blood and plasma though.

Take care,
S

Blood Donations

I was just informed by Blood Source (local blood bank) that they do not take or give credits. The only way Robynn can get credit is if you go to an actual Blood Source location in Northern California. The good news is they will pick up any cost that her insurance doesn't cover. All we have to do is send them a copy of the hospital bill and that's it! Yeah!
Here's your next challenge....
Please visit your local blood bank and donate blood in Robynn's honor. So many people can benefit from your donation and we all know Robynn would be first in line to help anyone in need!

We are still desperate to get Robynn's tummy aspirated but her clotting level is not where it needs to be. They are going to continue countless units of plasma throughout the night in hopes of helping her levels. If she can accomplish this then she can get the procedure done 1st thing in the morning. I can't begin to tell you how miserable this swelling is for her. The constant pressure causes so many undesireable effects. So, once again, I ask you to pray for peace and comfort.
On a happier note... she is still walkin the halls, got another shower and did keep down part of a smith's cookie and some peaches.
Hip Hip Hooray!

Keep your prayers a flowin!

hugs,
S

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

In case you missed the posting in the top right hand corner of this blog, please take a look.
This was the creation of 10 year old HAYDEN HARKER. She wanted to help Robynn and this was her idea put in motion. What a BIG contribution from such a small soul!
We are overwhelmed with Hayden's compassion and determination to find a way to help her sweet Robynn.

We are in awe of the donations already made in just one day! We are not surprised AT ALL by the generosity of family and friends but complete strangers are "taking up arms" to assist in our battle!!!

Pray on!

Love,
S

Day 4

Dear Friends and Family,

Last night was very rough for our girl. Our plan of "knocking her out"was met with great resistance. She struggled with the extreme discomfort and pain of her swelling tummy as well as nausea and vomiting. To make matters worse, her clotting level did not reach 16. As I write this, she is finally asleep and receiving 2 units of blood and 2 units of plasma. We hope that when the transfusions are done her level will have dropped enough to have her tummy aspirated.
Please pray for Peace! If we can keep her at peace and comfortable through this process it will be a lot more bearable.
On a positive note, she did eat about 8 bites of cream of wheat for me and kept it down...HOORAY!

She feels all the love you send her way...keep it comin!

XOXO,
S

Pray for lucky # 16

Robynn is doing laps around the hallways, as I'm sure you can imagine!;) All in all, she is tolerating the chemo pretty well, but is facing another dilemma. She has fluid retention that is causing extreme swelling in her belly and creating an extraordinary amount of pain. They can aspirate the fluid and relieve her discomfort if they are confident with her clotting levels. She received a plasma transfusion, but the numbers are not low enough to risk at this time.
Here is your challenge almighty prayers...her clotting level is a 17.5 and we need a 16 to have this procedure done. We decided that sedation until morning would keep her most comfortable. As a family, we agreed if you can't eat, sleep or drink, why be aware!!!!;)
Please pray her levels are a 16 at her blood draw in the morning!

She is prevailing with courage and grace as always!!!!!

Love you all,
S

Day 3

Good Morning!

First off, Aunt Robynn and Uncle Brian want to give out a big "Holla" to their 1st "baby girl" Callahan Christine for getting the "fight song" up and playing on the blog. Way to go Cal! Big XOXO's to you!

As for Our girl Robynn, yesterday was an ok day. She got a shower and was lookin and smellin pretty yummy! She did not go for that walk we talked about, but hope that comes today. Her blood count was a little low and she was gonna get another 2 units of blood. That should perk her up and help to get her taking to the hallways! She wrestled w/ a little bit of nausea in the early evening but fought it off like a warrior!

We have been informed that blood transfusions are going to be ongoing and plentiful. I am going to double check some information about giving blood in the city you live in and making sure Robynn gets "credit" for it in Roseville. When I am sure of the process, I will let you know. Giving blood in her name is another great way to help and we would appreciate it!

Thank you again....PRAY ON!

XOXO,
S

Day 2 of Chemo

Hello All!

That Robynn never ceases to amaze us! She is tolerating the chemo better than we ever hoped for. We know it is early and things could change without warning, but right now we are thrilled! She ate and kept her food down and when Brian turned on her I-Home she made sure to "break it down" and ordered Brian and I to do the same! Glad there were no cameras;) Her outlook is so "Robynn" which requires no explanation!

We are gonna attempt to get her in the shower. This poses a problem only because of her IV and PIC line that the chemo is administered through. Whatever the case, we will find a way! We are also gonna maybe take her for a walk in the halls. She's tired of sitting and wanted to give it a try. Those are our goals for the day, as well as EAT, EAT, EAT and stay IN, IN, IN!

In regards to sending things, flowers are beautiful, but there is just not a lot of room. In luei of them, could I suggest a Visa check card or Target card. There is a Target close by that we visit daily to grab something for her or the kids. The Visa cards are good almost anywhere. You are welcome to do whatever you like, I am in no way the boss here!;)

Please continue to respect our No visiting, No phone calls until we feel she is up for it. We know this is difficult for many of you, but we just wanna get our girl as strong as possible so she can beat this monster down!!!!!!!!

Love to all,

S

Chemotherapy starts...

My Dear Friends and Family,

I am very sorry to report that Robynn's wish to spend this weekend with Brian, Brady and Hailey was unable to be granted. Upon returning from Texas yesterday, she started vomiting and then lost consciousness. She was taken by ambulance to Sutter-Roseville. Tests show that there is another sizable tumor now pushing on the other side of her stomach as well as her intestines. She just can't seem to catch a break! Because of how fast this cancer recreates and spreads itself, chemotherapy was imminent!
She was given medication to help with the pain and vomitting which sedates her pretty well. When we left last night she was on her 1st of 2 units of blood and the administering of chemotherapy was minutes away. Brian was staying with her and has not reported any complications so we get great peace from that.
Our main goal is to keep Robynn comfortable and rested. We have no idea how her body will react to treatment, but the list of side effects are absolutely frightful! Please pray that Robynn gathers strength and feels no pain or discomfort. Please pray for our family, as we feel so unprepared and unequipped to handle this situation gracefully.
Robynn and our family know how much you love and care for her and how worried you are about her. The greatest gift you can give her is your prayers! Please don't stop!, Please pray and ask everyone you know to do the same! I know He hears us! Maybe we just aren't being loud enough. ...Give it your all!!! I'm down on my knees, please join me!

Please continue to be respectful of the decision to not allow any visitors or phone calls at this time. You are more than welcome to send things to the hospital(no balloons) but would recommmend we see how coherant she is first. You know Robynn,...she would hate for you to spend the $ if she wasn't able to enjoy it!;) Boy, she makes me SMILE!
I will find out today about her alertness and report back tonight.

God Bless You All
XOXO,
Shelley
