Please Pray for the Marvel/Frith Families

Our Dear neighbor and friend Sherry lost her 29 year old brother, Jerry last week. This is not the 1st sibling she has lost. Her sister died at the age of 23 due to a heart condition. I have sat bewildered ever since the news. Losing one child is the one thing none of us think we could survive, but two? That is inconceivable and would send us quickly to our demise. Please pray for this family. They have endured so much and Sherry's health has not been good and that concerns us greatly!
Please bring PEACE(thanks Kim) to these families and keep Sherry's health in Your care Dear Lord!

Merry CHRISTmas From Heaven

I still hear the songs
I still see the lights
I still feel your love on cold winterey nights
I still share your hopes
and all of your cares
I'll even remind you to please say your prayers
I just want to tell you
you still make me proud
You stand head and shoulders above the crowd
Keep trying each moment to stay in his grace
I came here before you
to help set your place
You don't have to be perfect all of the time
He forgives you the slip
If you continue the climb
To my family and friends
please be thankful today
I'm still close beside you in a new special way
I love you all dearly
now don't shed a tear
cause I'm spending my Christmas with Jesus this year

Thank you Sabrina~

Tomorrow (Friday) 6pm @ St Francis, Father Craig will Celebrate Robynn on her 1 year anniversary! Please join us!

I had to go back and see my posts from last year to be refreshed of what exactly happened this time last year. It was quite a struggle to be specifically reminded of what today would ultimately bring.
These were the words I used a few hours later;

"Standing Strong With Jesus"

Army Goodell, Our gracious Lord has commanded that Robynn come to Him. Being the ever faithful servant...she obeyed. That is all I have for now, I'm sorry.

I have no specific recollection of where those words came from, but I am confident that once again I was lead by Our Gracious Savior. I have had a great distraction this week with Kyle and I know this was NOT an accident. My brother did not have the same blessing, so I ask that you keep an EXTRA special watch over him. Tomorrow, there will be no other blessing ever so present than the one that was left by Robynn. Thank you for gracing us with such a wonderful and timeless gift!
May we all be reminded of what she meant and represented to us today and ALWAYS!
Thank you Army Goodell for STANDING STRONG and keeping us upright when falling down was all that seemed possible.

Prayer Request's

I received this from a friend and knew exactly where to turn....Here is what she is requesting;

1)
I need your help in starting a prayer chain, because I believe that the power of prayer will change the man for which I'm asking you to pray.
This is very difficult for the family, so I'm not mentioning any names. One of my dearest friends here in Fresno has been in ICU with her brother since Monday. She found him and is having a difficult time. He has two teenage children. He does not have the will to live and is upset that he did not die when attempted. Please pray that God will change his heart, provide strength for his recovery and give him the will to live.
Thank you so much!

2)
Sheila, from Jonah's Camp would like to ask for some serious prayer for a woman in our church. She's a cancer survivor who is having rare and debilitating side effects from taking Boniva a few years ago. The doctors say it could take about five years for her body to rid itself of the toxins. She is having severe depression and negativity that is taking its toll on her husband as well. They are strong believers, are still reading their Bible and praying, but her husband says nothing helps her. She is refusing help and contact offered by the church family. There's more, but please be praying for Chris and Donna and their family.

3)
A girl Cal went to HS with was hit by a car while jogging in Long Beach where she attends college. She has been in ICU for a week with serious head injuries and a broken pelvis that needs to be operated on. She is making progress, but is nowhere near out of the woods. Please pray for MACEY and her family.
She has a blog just like Our Girls...

You have your orders, Army Goodell!

Had to Share...Thank You Robynn..I LOVE You!

VERSE: For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him .... -- Philippians 1:29

THOUGHT: Suffer! How is suffering a privilege? It's not unless it is for Jesus. Remember how the early apostles were joyful because they were counted worthy to suffer for the name? (cf. Acts 5:41.) You see, he suffered for us so we could be saved. When we face suffering for the cause of Christ and his Kingdom, we help inspire others to live faithfully in adversity and show to all the genuineness of our faith. So few have anything worthy of their living, dying, or suffering. We have reason for all three: our lives will be caught up in Jesus' victory! (cf. Rom 8:32-39; 1 Cor.15.)

PRAYER: Make me courageous, O God! Help me to be faithful in times of trouble and strong in times of persecution, hardship, and suffering. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Thank you My Faithful Army!

You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. -- Psalm 32:7

It was by the support I received from so many, that I can say that my grief is a little lighter. Please make sure that you go and read the "comments" from my last few "posts". Some of the words might not touch you today, but there is no escaping the harsh reality of loving and loss, as well as disbelief and grief. I went most of my life without any real sense of loss...life was good! When loss came at me, it was with a VENGEANCE and seemed unrelenting most of the time. I pray that none of you will have to face such an extreme side of loss and grief. If you already have, I absolutely know your pain and I am sorry. If you have not, you have been blessed thus far, but it is inevitable and it will come for you too. This is why I ask that you read the comments. Copy and paste them in an email and mark them with "my protection during loss" or anything else that you find suitable. When you need them, they will be waiting to lift you up when your loss will try to drag you down. They will be your refuge as God has planned. He is preparing you as he always does. Heade His help and embrace it. It is the only way!

There has been something that I have been dealing with, and only those closest to me are aware of. It has been extremely hard on my children and my close family and friends. Yesterday, would be the day that could change things. Without going into much detail, I sat in a small room and pulled out the candle I received at Kelly's prayer service last week, held it to my heart and prayed. I prayed that Kelly's promise to me before she left this earth would be kept. I prayed that her and Robynn would work together to keep me calm, focused and give me a sign that they had God's attention. Well, as you can probably imagine those girls up there don't mess around! The sign they gave me was not small by anyones standards. It was the most blessed and unmissable sign that went beyond my wildest expectations. It would bring so much needed relief to my family. I realized that I can't ask for such a blessing without understanding who was in charge of it. Yes, Robynn and Kelly definitely had HIS ear, but HE chose to grant me this and it is ONLY through Him that we will be blessed and welcomed into His Kingdom!!!

My faith has been so far from the Lord recently. I am thankful that I am 1 step closer to getting back to Him and knowing HE IS IN CHARGE and I must surrender to Him!

My deepest love and thanks to you all!
Stand Strong!

Kelly's Tribute

http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/bakersfield/obituary.aspx?n=kelly-allyn-brown-haines&pid=135778918

I am unclear how to get through today. Actually, I am unclear on how to get through almost everyday, but somehow have managed. I guess I will assume today will be no different.

I also want to let Christine, Leslie and Kelly K know how their words touched me so deeply. They were a gift from God and exactly what I needed! You have done what any fearless soldier would do and that is STAND STRONG! Thank you for lifting my spirits and lifting my faith!

I love you Kel! And you Miss Robynn...I'm so jealous you get to have her all to yourself!

My Prayer Request

First, I must apologize for my lack of posts/updates. I should have told you about Hailey cutting off all her hair again for "Locks for Love", that Brady is his Class Rep, that they both have won awards at school for being smart, kind, helpful students and that Brian is enjoying subbing for the Kern HS District and ran in a mini marathon along with so many others to honor Robynn. That is not nearly all, there is so much more, but those are the highlights.
Kelly's sister Brandy refers to me as "MIA" and I am probably very deserving of that title. The truth is, I am having an extraordinary difficult time with my grief and it only seems to be getting worse. With the anniversary of Kelly's death(this Wed) and Robynn's right around the corner, compiled with the holidays, it just seems to be too much. It has been a year, should we not be feeling less sad, less denial, less dread about being left behind?
Another reason I have not written many posts is because I feel like a hypocrit trying to inspire others when my faith has been shattered. I feel ill equipped to lead Robynn's Fearless "Army Goodell".
With that said, please accept my apology for falling down, and I beg that you keep us in constant prayer as we struggle through the next few weeks.

Miss Denise Needs Our Help....

My dear friend Shelley,
How are you?
We are hanging in there. I would like you to post a  prayer request for me. It is for my daughter-in-law Jessica.  This Thurs, she is having a major surgery.
She was a passenger in a horrible car accident about 4 yrs. ago and now they have to operate on her neck. They will take out a disc and replace it with an
artificial one.
She will not
be able to pick up my sweet granddaughter Alexa for 6-8 weeks. Could you please post this on the blog so that every prayer will be heard
by our Gracious Lord. Please pray for the Dr's wisdom and to guide their hands and that she will be much better off than she is and they hope it will take away the
pain and give her mobility back and the loss of feeling in her arms and hands.
We all thank you and I knew that I could come to you and my dear army.
How is baby Joshua doing?

Thank you for all that you mean to me.
I love  you,
Praying in hope and in love,
Solider Miss Denise

Prayer Request

Dear Army Goodell,

Several months ago many of you graciouslly prayed for a student of mine... Hayden... his very young mother, Lori, was battling stage IV melenoma. Sadly, Lori lost her battle on September 19th while at MD Anderson in TX. She leaves behind a beautiful and bright 8 year old son, Hayden. I was lucky enough to call myself Hayden's teacher last year. Hayden is blessed to have the support and love of Lori's parents.
Please keep this family in your prayers.

Tracy Randall need our Prayers

From Tracy...
Thank you for the remembrance of 9-11.
Too often I think people forget that day until the anniversary.
On the other hand, I have a prayer request.
This comes from my hospital bed. I just finished up with my broken leg and now am back in with a broken back. Fracture the T-11 and L-1. Lots of pain, but I can still move arms and legs. Crashed my dirt bike and should be in a brace for 3 months.

God Bless the Heroes, God Bless Those Left Behind and God Bless America!

Please take a moment in remembrance of those so deeply affected by this day 8 years ago. We cried as a Nation and as a Nation we must heal, grow and continue to protect what we hold so dear!

Today I decorated my car w/ paint pens with the following sayings;
9-11
We have NOT Forgotten!
We are Still Praying!
God Bless the USA!
&
"USA" with hearts all around it
I went to Costco and when I got back in my car there was a piece of paper under my windshield wiper. I opened my car door and grabbed it. On the back of Christmas stationary it read,
"I like what you have written on your car! THANK YOU!!
I was very touched and full of pride, not just for our country, but all mankind!

Hold Brian up!

Today would have been Brian and Robynn's 12th wedding anniversary. Please pray for my brother as this will be such a difficult day.
I remember how beautiful Robynn looked(as always) and the tears of Joy that ran down her face as we presented her with her wedding gift from Brian, a diamond tennis bracelet before the ceremony. She was overwhelmed because she didn't need any other gift than marrying Brian. That was the greatest gift she could get in her eyes. She was just that simple, and that made her a magnet of love!
I ask that you please post a comment so that Brian will feel the love and support from all of "Army Goodell "
Thank you Kelly K for remembering:)

More to Pray about....

I got this from Brandy;

Shelley, Can I request some prayers??? First...My grandmother's brother Earl passed away last week....she is now 2 out of 12 left. He was 80 years old...My grandma, Bertha had to leave Roger (Angiosarcoma) and Aunt Judy to go to his funeral and care for his family for a bit...She is an 89 year old Florence Nightingale...Tonight my mother called and my dad's brother Bill who has Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia is in the hospital with a Pulmonary Embolism in his lung...an apparent side effect from a trial medication he was on...so the trial had to stop. Anyhow...if you could please keep them in your prayers...It would be so very appreciated. In fact shoot up some prayers for all of God's children....No matter how bad we have it at times...there is always someone out there going through something even worse....God please be with all your children...give us all strength and guidance to get through whatever it is that you have planned for us. ....and thank you for all of our blessings. HUGS TO HEAVEN!!!!

Please also pray for;

Garrett Hansen(remember praying for Nick Hansen...this is his grandson) who was born yesterday and has been placed on a respirator.

Steve Schneider(Tims step-dad) who fell and broke his hip and is rehabilitating at HealthSouth.

Hailey Rae who chipped a bone in her ankle yesterday:( So sad about missing the beginning of soccer season.

Brian's back is still causing him much pain.

That my friend Sherry Frith can stay out of the hospital and they get her pain managed.

The Escalante family who lost Randy.

Jan Jay has been dealing w/ colon cancer and now has terminal cancer on the lining of the abdomen. We need a miracle for this one!

That Santos and Mrs Sullivan continue to heal.

and last but not least, pray for Baby Joshua and ALL who are in need of our prayers!

Psalm 63:1-2O

Baby Joshua

From Lauressa:
Sorry, I've lagged on updating on him :( Well, since I last updated you he's been thru a couple more surgeries and ended up with shunt in his head to help drain the extra fluid building up in his head. This will help keep him out of pain, because extra fluid causes very bad headaches. He's also battled a very serious infection in one of his first shunts. He won those battles!! Now, today starts a new battle. He starts his chemo regimen today. He is going to be receiving some very strong ones and needs as many prayers as we can all muster. Prayers that his docs and nurses will administer this chemo cocktail with the utmost of care and knowledge of these medications. Prayers to continue giving Joshua the strength and will to fight this terrible disease. Prayers for Josh Sr and Kendall (his parents) to be able to handle all the stress/demands that go along with going through this type of an ordeal. Please everyone keep this sweet baby and his family in your prayers. Include them in your church's prayer listings and tell your friends and neighbors as well. He's almost 10 months old now and was just diagnosed a little over a month ago.
Thanks again everyone!

Bittersweet!

This morning we got the great news that Hailey's arm was all healed and no more "STINKY" cast. Perfect timing because her first soccer practice is tomorrow and she plans on being the star of her team!

After the doctor visit we ran up to the cemetary to visit Robynn and Uncle Dennis. Today Dennis would have been 35 (it's still hard to believe it's been almost 10 years since he left us). While we were cleaning the headstones Brady just started singing Happy Birthday loud and proud. I know Robynn was singing right along and Dennis was smiling.

Lord how I miss my two Best Friends but consider myself blessed to have had such amazing people in my life!
God Bless!

Toothless Wonder

I almost forgot. Hailey wanted me to make sure you all knew she lost her first tooth last night. She even took a picture for everyone to see.

The Kids!

Brady and Hailey have had a whirlwind of a summer. They visited Sea World and the San Diego beaches, hung out in Mexico at Uncle Matt & Auntie Erin's with family and friends, visited their Great Grandpa (Robynn's Grandpa) Bob Brady in Southern California, made a trip to Magic Mountain, had sleep overs with Mum-Mum &Papa & Auntie, Tim & their cousins, and had multiple visits from Mimi, Enni, Uncle Derek, the Harkers, and Ms. S. And for those who don't know, we moved back to Bakersfield, right down the street from their Mum-mum & Papa and only a couple miles from Auntie.

On the negative side, Hailey did fracture her radius and growth plate in her left and has been in a splint or cast nearly all summer. She goes back to the doctor to get her 2nd cast off and see how the growth plate fracture is healing (so far not so well). If it is not progressing properly we will have to see an orthopedic surgeon. I pray this is not the case and we see the results we need during Tuesdays doctor visit. I'll keep you all posted on the results.

Lastly, I want to thank you all for your continued prayers and support for my family and so many others. You all continue to amaze and I consider myself extremely blessed by you. Despite the kids enjoying their summer, it has been extremely difficult on them both to not be able to spend these special times with with their mom. I know your prayers and encouragement has given me the strength and guidance to nurture and support them when it is every bit as difficult a time for me.

God Bless You All!

Brian

The good news is, Mrs. Sullivan and Santos both got to go home last week. Hip Hip Hooray!

I will get to see with my own 2 eyes how Mrs. Sullivan is doing on Wednesday, as my mom and I are bringing dinner to her. Keep praying, she has a long road ahead!

Santos did go home as well and will get his treatments as an outpatient at CBCC 3 times a week. This should continue for at least 3 months. The side effects are very similar to what we saw with Robynn...extreme tiredness, no appetite, weight loss, bad taste in mouth etc:( Please pray that his faith in God remains strong during this very difficult time. I am still helping the family with dinners, groceries etc. Please let me know if you are available to help in any way.
Thank you to all who have helped so far! A Target gift card just showed up from an anonymous soldier...I have a good guess who she is....:) bless you!
Santos has told us over and over how he sees the work of God through the help he has received and asks that "we be blessed a hundred fold"

My Papa will be discharged from Health South, but is not able to return to his home as we all had hoped. This weekend, "the guys" moved all of the things needed for his new home at Glenwood Gardens. "The girls" worked on setting it up and shopping for odds and ends. I will go today and hang pictures and put the final touches together. As hard as this is, I try to find the bright side. The bright side for our family is that my Papa has made sure that no one would have to worry about him financially. As we all know, this can be a huge burden on families and we are thankful for this blessing. Please pray that the sadness that fills his 3 daughters and grandchildren will ease and that we look to Gods unending love and grace.

Brian is still in quite a lot of pain. We feel he has been a little neglected as Papa has required most of our attention. My mom has been cooking for him and I tried to help by keeping Brady and Hailey for a few nights, and had dinner for them, but we don't feel like it was enough. A quick phone call or email might be nice, so he knows you are thinking of him:)

No news on baby Joshua. Oh, Lauressa....

Update & More Prayers Needed

Mrs. Sullivan responded well to having the abscess removed and antibiotics administered. She was conscious and talking a bit on Thursday. Her tests for the infection are showing positive results and we are so thankful. The pathology report showed the cancer had spread and she will undergo chemo when she regains some strengths.

Santos's body rejected the medication needed to get him well. They then tried a less invasive drug, but realized they needed to try the Amphotericin B again maybe at a slower pace. They tried this yesterday and he amazingly seemed to tolerate it better...ALLELUIA! He is getting another dose today at 4pm. Please pray his body continues to take this medication as it is imperative for his survival.
On a cheery note, taking dinner to his children Thursday night, simply warmed my heart! They were all so happy to see me and wanting to help carry the food from the car to the house. I had more helpers than I had things to carry:) It was a wonderful feeling to see 1st hand their excitement and gratefulness. My friend Mel took dinner over last night and I'm sure she was greeted with the same joy! I can't wait to see them all again tonight!

On Thursday my Papa (my Mom's Dad) suffered a stroke and was hospitalized. He is being moved to Health South for rehabilitation for a couple weeks and then they will reevaluate him to see what the next step is. He is very disoriented and it is very sad to watch. However, some of the things he has said to us these past couple days have led us to laughing so hard we cried and for some, they laughed so hard they had to get to a restroom quick:) Just like with Robynn, laughter is an amazing antidote when faced with such sad circumstances.

Brian has been in excruciating pain with a slipped disc and pinched nerve in his back. Not much can keep this guy down, but this has definitely done just that! I'm taking Brady and Hailey to a bday party and then to see Papa.

Thank you again for your prayers and if you could, please help out with providing for Santos's family. I will continue to do whatever I can, but most of my time is being spent with my Papa, so I ask for your help with that.

Special Prayer Request

Please pray for Mrs. Darlene Sullivan. She was diagnosed with Colon cancer last week, underwent surgery the following day and has suffered some serious complications. She developed a huge abscess and is at a high risk for becoming septic. Yes, there's that nasty, ugly word that will forever be associated with Kelly's death. With that said, I think you understand the seriousness of this.
I lived much of my childhood in the Sullivan household. Mrs. Sullivan loved me as one of her own and always made me feel so special. Her impact on my life is immeasurable.
With tears and a lump in my throat, I ask that you please pray for her and her family.

I need BIG prayers for Santos and I need help with meals for his family! I know cooking for this many people is intimidating, but I know we are up for the task!
Gift cards to any local grocery store/Target or restaurant/pizza place would be helpful as well. I will be happy to pick up and deliver anything you have to give if that will help.

Update on Baby Joshua

From Lauressa;

Thank you so much Shelley for posting this!
Little Joshua had 60% of his tumor removed yesterday, the doc told his mom that
"He won't survive this". He is currently recovering from surgery with an expected prognosis of 1 year or less.Army Goodell knows that many many people outlive their prognosis, and I have seen many patients exceed the doctors expectations too.
We are keeping hope alive :)
Thanks again for posting prayer requests for Joshua.

Prayer Request

This is from Lauressa, one of Robynn's Fabulous nurses from Roseville Sutter.....

Can I forward a request to you to have Army Goodell pray for someone?
A friend of mine that I've known since 4th grade just found out on Thursday that her and her husband's 1st child, 8 mos old Joshua Truini, has a very aggressive brain tumor. The tumor is wrapped around his brain stem and part of his spinal cord. The brain stem controls breathing, heart rate, blood pressure. He is having his big surgery today to remove as much tumor as they can. He needs lots of prayers right now. Prayers that he will come through surgery, that his medical team will do everything in their power to help him. Also, prayers that whatever plans the docs have for treating him will be successful.
Thank you so much! The Truini family lives in Oregon.

You know what to do Army Goodell!

Prayer Request/Updates

Please raise Roger Pool up in prayer as he is beginning his battle with The Devil's right-hand man...Angiosarcoma. It gives me the chills to even type that word. Roger is married to my dear friend Kelly's Aunt Judy. Kelly's sister Brandy just informed me of this very sad news and said the symptoms/side effects are "all too familiar and like Robynn's, it is moving very fast".

A young mother from "Jonah's camp", Bracha Elisheva Bat Kaila is undergoing brain surgery due to cancer.

Please let Tracy's family feel the continued power of prayer as they struggle to live life without Larry.

Updates:

Linda Baker is finishing up with chemo and prays for more energy and wonders, what her hair will look like when it grows back?

Hooray for Julie Martin who is enjoying "Quality of Life" and will use this special time to serve through teaching Vacation Bible School. Way to go Julie!!!

I commend all our soldiers above on their courage and faith in a God that loves them so divinely! He will not fail you!

Happy Birthday BRADY DENNIS!!!!!

I remember so clearly Robynn's labor with Brady. I was there for hours trying to keep her entertained. We sang, danced, reenacted Seinfeld episodes and recited our all time favorite sayings from movies("So I married an Axe Murderer" was mimicked repeatedly;). My goal was to distract and not being successful was NOT an option! This was her 1st baby and I knew how helpful that would be.
So the irony of all this is that my Mom and I had been there so long that, well lets say....we were "ripe" and were desperate for a shower:) After her epidural, the nurse told us it would be quite sometime before delivery and to let her get some sleep and by the time we got back, there should be a better progression. She did look exhausted and our stench was getting a little out of hand and we didn't want to be stinky for our sweet Brady, so we agreed.
We had not even made it home when Brian calls to tell us to "get back here, she's ready to push". We can hear Robynn in the back ground yelling "Hurry! Hurry! You need to get back". I immediately start driving like a mad woman in a total panic! I am merging onto the 99 at Ming Ave when Brian calls back and tells me not to rush because, "Brady Dennis is here!" I start bawling! I cry all the way back to the hospital. I can't believe I missed it! How could this have happened? My mom was just as upset as I was. Running through the parking lot, lobby and hallways we finally reached our precious Brady. Robynn's smile could not have been brighter. Her and Brian's joy was abundant.
What a day! What a moment ! What a Blessing!
Thank you Robynn for giving us Brady and gracing him with your love of books, a generous heart, an insatiable sweet tooth:) and your trademark freckles! So many reminders of you and we are so thankful!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY "BO-BO"!
Auntie loves you!

Something to Hold On to....

Romans 8:38-39

I am convinced that neither death nor life,
neither angels nor demons,
neither the present nor the future,
nor any powers,
neither height nor depth,
nor anything else in all creation,
will be able to separate us from the
love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Larry Lives in Heaven Now

They were able to get Larry comfortable before he passed away.
Please keep his family in your most sacred prayers.
Also, pray for the Georgino family. Our dear friend Shirley Georgino passed away yesterday. Her son Michael is one of my Dads all time favorite students from 40 years ago. Some of you might know Shirley as the owner of the Jolly Kone on S Chester Ave. As kids, teenagers and even adults we loved to go visit Shirley and grab a salad burger and vanilla coke. She was always hard at work, but never caught without a smile and something to say that would make you laugh along with her. She will be missed, but Heaven will reap our loss.

God Bless and...

Prayers of Peace for Larry

I just got a call from Tracy. Larry fell yesterday and was readmitted to Roseville-Sutter. Basically, the Dr's have told his family that his body is shutting down and he could have as little as 24 hours left. They are trying to get him moved to the Oncology floor so Hospice can come in and insure he is kept comfortable. I sat with Robynn's prayer quilt in my lap as we spoke, and in an instant I was brought back to December 17th. I tried to comfort Tracy and give him a realistic expectation. Even in the end, after all the pain and suffering you've witnessed becomes constant, it is still so hard to let go. The devastation this devilish disease causes is immeasurable.
Please pray that Larry's burden be lifted and that he is prepared to enter His kingdom where he is granted ever lasting life and peace. "The girls" are helping to prepare a place for you Larry. Kiss and hug them for us, upon your arrival:)

We are here Larry! We are praying! God Bless you!

A Gift to Remeber

On June 7th I turned 40. This was tough for multiple reasons, but the biggest was that Kelly, Raji and I had BIG plans for our 40th's. We always do something super cool for each other , but this year was gonna be bigger and better. I knew those plans had changed when she passed, but was unprepared for the emptiness I felt having a birthday without her and Robynn. The excitement they both expressed over their loved ones birthdays, was truly something to be missed. I expressed my sadness and unwillingness to celebrate without her to Kelly's parents and I knew they understood. Enough self pity...here's the best part...
Remember Robynn's Prayer quilt? The one Kelly was frantic to get finished in a couple days because Robynn was gravely ill and we were unsure if she would be around to see this precious gift and be comforted by it? Yes, I know you know the one. Well, after Robynn's passing Brian had reiterated Aunt Robynn's wishes to give Cal all her beloved coats and jackets and anything out of her closet that she wanted. Cal said she wasn't ready to do that, but looked forward to a day when she was emotionally able. He then asked if there was anything I wanted and I replied, "all I want is the prayer quilt Kelly made for her". "It's yours" he said. I was thrilled and immediately asked where it was. It was not in the box Kelly had sent it in. We found the box, but no blanket. He assured me he would find it and get it to me. Weeks passed and I asked if he had run across it and he said, no. When packing up his house for their move back to Bakersfield, I figured he'd for sure find it, but now he wondered if it had been left behind in Texas. I was beside myself and whenever the thought of not finding it crossed my mind, I burst into tears. This reality was overwhelming and my sadness & despair was deep and dark. I was prepared to call every listed phone number for MD Andersen and track it down. The busyness of Alex, Cal and Roberts graduations helped relieve my obsession with it and their parties became a great distraction. Their graduation party was the day before my birthday and some had brought gifts for me. Gifts that I loved and would cherish because their sentiment was indescribable(thank you Mr and Mrs. Brown, Bill, Spencer, Mason, Starr family, Matt, Erin, Maddie and Raj:) However, none consisted of the colorful squares held together with brown satin ribbon that had been perfectly stitched together at the hands of my dear, sweet Kelly. The quilt that had come to Robynn's rescue and wrapped her in our love and prayers. The quilt that had caused Kelly sleepless nights, time away from her family and bloody fingers. Where could it be?
My pride in Kelly as my friend was always tremendous, but the pride I felt when I got to present this prayerful treasure to Robynn can never be put into words. Kelly, ONCE AGAIN used her God given talent to bring joy, peace, comfort and God's grace to Robynn. It was a miracle in itself and I was so honored that it came from MY FRIEND Kelly.
So now it's my birthday....I choose to want to lay in bed all day and Raji graciously accepts that fact and jumps right in bed with me:) Thanks Raj! We do however roll out of it around 5 to go to my parents for dinner. My dad BBQ's and it's just my 7, Raj, my parents, Brian, Brady and Hailey. Very simple and subdued, per my request.
Lastly, a present in one of the Christmas boxes we keep and recycle is brought to me by Brady. I open the card attached and it has a goofy looking dog in a wacky pair of glasses and Brian and the kids have written sweet things in their best handwriting. I open the box and remove the brown tissue paper and can't believe my eyes. I pick up Robynn's prayer quilt, press it against my face, hugging it tightly and sob. Brady is behind me and gently pats my back and tells me "it's ok Auntie". When I'm able to take it away from my face I see my brother sitting across from me on the fireplace with a red face and tears welling up. He knows he's given me what no one else could give and my day is now perfect!
Thank you again to all who wished me well!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRIAN! WE LOVE YOU!

Blood Drive Success!!!

I apologize for my lapse in posts, but with 3 graduates and everything that goes along with it, I've been swamped! Thank you for your understanding.
I Just wanted to thank everyone who helped in ANY way to make Robynn's 2nd Blood Drive a HUGE success! In the spirit of Robynn, her Mom and Jenni where asked to choose someone who would benefit from the blood donations and proceeds. That lucky gal was one of Army Goodell's finest, Barley Parrish:) Barley's diagnose and treatment had started before Robynn's Battle began. We send out our love, prayers and support to her and her son Corey and she continues to wage war with Army Goodell by her side! Fight on Barley!!!
Below is an email from her. I wanted to pass it along....

Hello,
Yesterday's event was fabulous. I believe fifty people ended up donating blood. Thank you for all your love and support! You are the best! I had my second round of chemotherapy (since starting back) yesterday. I was very tired and crawled into bed after leaving OLG. I had some nausea, but today I feel pretty darn good. Yippee! Thank you to all who donated blood, baked items, lemonade, time, etc...A million thanks! Corey and I truly appreciate your generosity and support! Words can't express our gratitude...
Much health and love to all,

Barley and Corey
P.S. We hope you have a great summer! Please stay in touch.

Cal's Last Day of HS

This is a bittersweet day for both of us. When I hugged her and tried to convey my sadness she quickly separated from me, because she didn't want to be crying before she even got to school. Sorry...my bad. She graduates next Wednesday and Uncle Brian will be there of course. I'm sure that's where "mom" will have her total breakdown. I am grateful that she wants to continue to live at home and get her general ed courses out of the way and then go to nursing school. This past year has had an extreme affect on our family and Cal wanting to become a Nurse is one of the positive outcomes. There will be more blessings, I have no doubts:)

Love to all!

Prayer Request from Kelly K

kelly k said...
Once more, I call upon Army Goodell to pray for a dear friend. Please keep Karen, Owen, and brand new baby girl Purvis in your prayers. Their husband/father Eric was a navy helicopter pilot that become our dear friend when he and my husband went through pilot training in 1997. Sadly, Eric was one of 5 killed in a helicopter crash this week in San Diego. He and his wife Karen just celebrated the birth of their baby girl 3 weeks ago. This Memorial Day... when we spend treasured moments with our loved ones, please take a moment to think of this family and lift them up in prayer. Pray for this brand new mom who is now faced with teaching her baby girl how to love a daddy she never got to know.

Kelly K,
I cannot tell you how it warms my heart to know when you stumbled across this blog you had never prayed. Now, not only do you pray, but you encourage others to join in and ask for "back-up". What a wonderful thing! Thank you Kelly K.... we've got your "back".
Love to you always, S

Mothers day was a rough one, but we survived. It was nice to have Brady stay the night at Aunties and wake up to one of his famous back rubs! That kids got talent!!!;) We went to the cemetery (still waiting on headstone)and ran into Tracy & his kids who were visiting "Our Girl" as well. She got spoiled with her favorite 2 kids, starbucks, balloons,a pinwheel, tulips, and a "Diva" stuffed animal.
Took a Mother's day balloon to Kelly and sat on her bench and cried for being without my two dear friends.

Relay Today

We set up last night in the pouring rain and strategically placed all our tents/canopy's:) It looks like the heavens will smile on us today and not make us walk in the rain!
Cal, Tanner and I are dressed and loading up the car with more supplies for the day. We will stay out there until about 3pm. Then we have to get Cal ready for her last prom(tear). I
will return once her photo session is over and she is off. I am soooo excited for the Luminaries! They are my favorite part! It's like being a kid at Christmas, looking for the names you honored
and finding them. It truly is amazing!

If you happen to be out there tomorrow, hunt me down... I'd love to hug any and all members of "Army Goodell"

Just in case you were wondering.......I raised over $2,000.00 for Relay! Not too shabby! Just like everything else, I could not have done it without my faithful and trusted ARMY!!! You ROCK!!

Please pray that she will continue down a holy and righteous path. That the decisions she has made thus far, will continue and help her grow further in God's love.

Update on Larry

Well, I am sad to report that while performing a successful surgery they found many cancerous masses in his abdomen. Left untreated, his life expectancy could be a month. With intense treatment with horrid side affects(that we are ALL TOO familiar with) and multiple surgeries, he could have up to 6 months.
I know the lump that you feel in your throat right now. I have it too. After getting the news, I sat in the Costco parking lot and cried. It brought back so may upsetting memories, and to think as we all fretted, cried and felt cheated, Robynn remained graceful and smiled when we couldn't.

Please pray for Larry and his family, as they face two despicably sad options. I am so sorry for them...

Please take a moment, and pray for Larry. They are prepping him for 6pm surgery tonight. It seems that his intestine has attached itself to his abdominal wall causing great discomfort and complicating matters even more. I spoke with Tracy and he just ask that we take action in praying for Larry and his family.
This is why we are here Army Goodell...to serve! And serve we shall!

Yet another young woman has been struck with devastating news. Susan was just diagnosed with multiple cancers that are in-operable and now must begin a battle no one should ever be challenged with. Please extend your prayers for Susan and her family, that they may be blessed with the strength and healing only Our Lord can provide!

Thank you so much for all you do for so many you don't even know. You all are amazing and I know Our Girl is looking down smiling! God bless you all!

Joyce Duncan

Please check "comments" for the details, but know when she came to us for her two dear friends, she had no idea Joyce was no longer with us. They are in shock and great pain. Please let them feel our presence as faithful soldiers of the Lord and surround them in deep and comforting prayer. How wonderful for them that all of you will help strengthen them. What a blessing!

Miss Denise needs our Help!

Her words were perfect, so I pass them on to you Army Goodell...

My dear Shelley,
Here we go again and again. I could not find the words to write on the blog. My heart is hurting so deeply. My dear friend JULIE MARTIN has been diagnosed with cancer of the bile ducts leading to and in her liver. It is inoperable and without any treatment there are no cases that have lived up to six months. She is less that 90 lbs. and has to eat and bulk up to be a candidate for treatment of any kind. She is 47 yrs. old and a TREMENDOUS Christian and her wish is that her life is a testimony for our Lord and her faith(sounds so like Robynn) She prayed for Robynn and you all through her journey. We go to church together and have sang in the choir for close to 20 yrs and my life is never going to be the same without her next to me singing. We sang duets and small groups, praising our Lord and we were on our special Missions Trip this past year to Nicaragua. Oh Shelley, my heart is crumbling again. I had the privilege of staying with her and was able to tell her everything that she means to me and what she has taught me. It is so much like Robynn and I feel so helpless except that she is the lucky one and gets to meet Jesus.....as we still strive to do his work here on earth.
Also, my dear friend Linda Baker will be starting chemo for Breast cancer(she was hoping to just have to do radiation after her lumpectomy)
I love you sooo much and I know that I can always come to you and our Army Goodell.
Praying in hope and in love, with such a heavy heart...

Thank you to our West Sac girls for giving us the reminder , that "Robynn's Way" is a wonderful route, we all should take!

Relay for Life...WE DID IT!!!!!!!!

This morning after Missy's donation, I was $10 away from my $1500 goal. Aunt Robynn's special girl, Callahan Christine, gave me $10 of her own money to achieve my goal. I can just see Our Girl's smile, as bright as can be right now and Kelly jumpin up & down in the background!
Thank you all who helped me reach this goal. I honestly believe we will find a cure for all types of cancer and Robynn and the rest of our loved ones did not die in vain. They were meant to inspire us to be better, do better and help others. It is our job to learn from their teachings.

Friday I went to the homeless shelter with my mom and we put together countless hygiene kits that get handed out on Mondays. It was 3 hours of sorting, packing and unpacking and the feeling it gave me is indescribable. The reward to me was endless. It was the best day I had had in such a long time. I made a list of some things that we were running short on and ran to the dollar store yesterday to get what was needed. It wasn't much, but it means so much to these sweet souls that are down on their luck and just require the simplest of things. Sometimes, just a smile or a prayer. Please keep them in your prayers and if you'd like to help donate items that we will need, I'll put you to work;)

The boys had a great time watching the Angels' beat the A's on opening day in LA. The girls baked/decorated Easter cookies and cakes and dined at PF Chang's(Hailey's Fav). I boiled 2 dozen eggs this morning the the kids are putting the final touches on some gorgeous looking Easter eggs. They are doing tye dye, HSM3,marble and basic colored eggs.
I know that jumping in the pool will come as soon as they are done.
Tonight the men are going to BBB(Bibles-BBQ & Beer) and I'm not sure what we will do.

On another note. I have become extremely upset with the 25 lbs I have gained this past year and am determined to shed every last ounce with Robynn's divine intervention! I know I couldn't do it without her. She had a way that could inspire anyone and I am relying on the many memories and can hear her pep talks word for word. Today I decided to grab Mousse (Robynn's dog) and go for a walk. With Taylor Swift playing full blast on my Ipod we headed out! It was a gorgeous day and I just knew Robynn would delight in all the flowers in bloom and the soft wind that blew the wonderful smells of spring around. We were at the tail end of our walk and we passed Brian and Robynn's old house. I felt my chest tighten and tears welled up as I so wanted to go back in time. She loved that house and I loved all the memories shared there. The song that played as I passed...Love Story. How perfectly fitting was that? Robynn's Love Story did not begin and end with Brian. She seemed to inspire a Love Story with friends and family alike. Her love for me has changed me and I will never be the same.

Thank you my sweet girl! How I miss our walks, talks, laughs, jokes, sing-a-longs, holidays, celebrations and precious girl time! LOVE YOU!!!!!

Well, Brian and the kids will be back to Bakersfield to spend Easter break with us. Brady and Brians 1st adventure will be a trip with Tanner, Tim, Dustin and Gabrielle to see the Angels play. Hailey will enjoy "girls day" with Auntie, Mum-Mum and Cal. I think we will just have to visit our favorite nail shop for some mani/pedi's, lunch and perhaps a movie. A little shopping couldn't hurt ;) Brian is having surgery on his ankle Thursday the 9th. He doesn't want to worry the kids by watching him hobble around so he's asked my parents to take them to the beach. I will stay with Brian and make sure he follows ALL the Dr's orders. I'm here to tell you, he's a much better caregiver than he is a patient, but I'm up for the challenge;)
Brian is enjoying the kids baseball season and just finished up his Sunday basketball league where rumor has it, he's pretty good on the boards. Way to go bro!

Kelly's garden took my breath away, as well as the toasts and gifts exchanged. It really was beautiful and so fitting for our beloved and precious Kelly. Thank you to her parents who hosted us all. It was terrific and I love you both so much. Brandy and Matt, it's a rough road, but we are not alone and we will find our way with Kellys guidance.

Tim and I will be meeting my parents in Santa Barbara tomorrow, so you won't be hearing from me for a few days. I'm sure we will hit up our favorite place in SB...Ruby's Cafe:)

Love to all and be safe in your travels!

Happy Birthday Dear Kelly!
Happy Birthday to You!

Just a few of us will go to Kelly's parents and have a champagne toast and pray over the garden they planted for Kelly. Downtown Mexicali watch out! We are gonna feast on Kel's favorite dishes along with our Friday lunch must haves... Cadillac margarita's. A pink Champagne cake from Smiths will top it all off.
I'm having a rough day. I just miss her something fierce. We talked so much about us turning 40 this year and the specifics. Were supposed to grow old together and I just can't believe that's not gonna happen. Please pray for all of us today. I'm getting my crying time in now so hopefully I can hold it together for tonight.

This week has been a roller coaster of sadness and JOY! Robynn's birthday is so bittersweet for so many. What I am left with, is a gratitude for even knowing her. A thankfulness that she loved me so much and always let me know it. The love she showed for us and even strangers was a love some never find in a lifetime. And here goes "Our Girl" blessing so many with it. Thank you Mimi for creating a beauty beyond beauties inside and out. Thank you Enni for sharing your sister"Ruby"and thank you Brian, Brady and Hailey for not keeping her to yourselves and allowing her to touch so many lives so deeply with that incredible spirit, contagious laugh, unforgettable hugs and a smile as bright as the sky.
My life is so much better because of her, all of our lives are!

Missy sent this to me and it was tough to listen to, but I think it is Robynn telling us how Great HIS Kingdom is and reminding us that she is preparing a place for us. How exciting!

What a Day!

I definitely have to say today was one of the best days I have had in a long time.
It started with Opening Day for West Sac Little League. With opening day comes a full day at the Ballpark. Pictures were at 8am and I must say they just don't come any cuter than Brady, Hailey and their teammates! (I'll post pics so you can see what I mean) Then it was on to the team floats and an hour long Parade through West Sac with little leaguers smiling, waving, and throwing candy. Next came the moments that had numerous eyes in the crowd a little watery. Mary Dotson (who I cannot thank enough) did a Tribute to Robynn that was so touching and heartfelt. They honored Robynn by dedicating this years little league season in her honor and placed a rememberance plaque in the snackbar for her. Then to cap it all off, as Mary threw out the First Pitch to kick off the 2009 Season, Brady & Hailey released Brown balloons into the air for I bet you can guess who! Finally came the games, both Brady & Hailey and their teams did very well and are sure to have outstanding seasons!

Then when I thought my day couldn't be any more fulfilled, I realized I was wrong. As we were leaving the Ballpark Robynn's mom asked if Brady could stay the night with her. I without hesitation said of course, knowing that this meant I would get my first date since Robynn left us. I got to go out with my Little Princess Miss Hailey Rae. What a wonderful night we had! Dinner at Red Robin (Hailey had never been but loves the commercial & name), then it was off to Big Spoon Frozen Yogurt, and finally home to snuggle in bed and watch Hannah Montana until way past her bedtime!

I wish you all could have been with us today and am very grateful for all of you who were able to be. I continue to be amazed by the number of lives that Robynn has touched and also by the number of people who have touched me and my families lives. I am truly humbled by the love and support that has been displayed by so many friends, aquaintances, and perfect strangers!

God Bless you all!

Guess Who????

This was a post I received from Nicole that I had to pass on...
Hi guys,Today, when the kids got to preschool,we noticed that Liam the Leprechaun had been there...there was glitter everywhere and green paint spilled with little green foot prints everywhere...I was reminded of a few years ago when a certain blue eyed leprechaun with a fantastic smile delighted our preschoolers by wreaking the most havoc anyone had seen in a long time including (but not limited too)..green pee in the toilet and gold flecks everywhere! It was a fantastic memory...We miss her but our memories keep her with us.

That's "Our Girl"!!! I can hear her laughter at this memory and many others.

Sweet dreams.

Green Beer is Almost Here....

We are getting geared up for one of "Our Girls" most favored holiday... St . Patrick's Day.
I know her Irish Eyes will be smiling down on us!
I started a tradition when Cal and T were little to go to See's candy and get gold coins, green foiled shamrocks and leprechauns all made of chocolate...of course;) and sprinkle them from their beds, down the hallway and to a door that would lead outside. They were always very close to catching those tricky little guys, but never have they been fast enough to make them hand over their pot of gold. Since being back in Bako, I would always buy enough for Kelly and Raji's boys. I gave Raji her stash the other day and went to drop off Kelly's today. Boy oh boy, was that tough. It still seems unreal to be without her. To make matters worse, I thought I had forgotten to give Brian, Brady and Haileys treats and I was about to lose it. I called him to tell him how sorry I was. I had made a promise to Robynn last year that I would always make sure this tradition was kept up for her kids if she ever was called to leave us and I had failed the very 1st time. What a LOSER!! He calmly said, "Shelley you put it in my closet at Mom and Dads, I got it". I started crying in sadness to be without her and joy because I had not failed her.
I really do feel that I am losing my mind at times. "Army Goodell" must be hard at work to keep me sane...thank you! It's a tough job, but someones gotta do it;)))))))

Please pray extra diligently, as the next couple weeks are bound to be treacherous. Robynn and Kelly's bday are approaching(March 23 and 31st) and it is already so hard to be without them.

I love you all!

Just Some Highlights

So much went on this week and I didn't get to share some of our special moments....
*13 of us gathered(Uncle Brian, Brady, Hailey included) to watch Tanner at his choir performance, As always, he was a STAR! If there was any doubt in your mind, I'm here to tell you he made Show Choir for next year;)

* Hailey and I went shopping, stopped by the "perfume counter" and Miss Pea had to spray every fragrance known to Sephora and Macy's on a little card and tucked each and everyone into her jean pockets. If that weren't enough, she then had to cover both our bodies with a squirt of each one as well. I turned to her and said "Hailey, no more! We smell like a Brothel". Bewildered she asked, "what's that?" as the woman behind the counter chuckled,I replied, "I'll tell you when you're older". Tanner just looked over my shoulder while I'm typing and asked "what's a brothel" Praise the Lord!!!!

*Brady and Callahan both did the Readings at Uncle Sonny's service, which was a proud moment for us all. I felt Robynn beaming with pride over her son and her niece.

*Madison's confirmation/Matt's b-day was a wonderful way to end our time together. Brady wrote to his mom on a post-it note and sent it to heaven with a balloon from Madi's celebration.

*"Running with Robynn" was a HUGE success! Since we couldn't physically be there,
the 6 of us wore our shirts in Bakersfield and "ran"around town and then played "Loaded Questions" outside at a round table in the middle of Tim's yard because it was such a perfect day. The sky was as blue as Robynn's eyes and the clouds reached as wide as her smile. The birds were singing and we took in a wonderful afternoon of FFF (forced family fun;) Robynn would have loved every second.

Congrats to Father, I mean Monsignor Craig, who made it "official" today. We are so proud to have you at our helm. May God continue to Bless you and your wonderous works in HIS name.

PS It gets even better....Cal just was proofreading for me and asked "what's a brothel?" lol

What a Tribute!

Yesterday's service was beautiful. We definitely did Uncle Sonny proud!;)
The US Army Guard even showed up to honor him, that was very touching. Mary Ann receiving our nations flag was a memory I will never forget.
A HUGE shout out to Kevin Fitzgerald of Quick Printing Plus http://www.qppventura.com/ who donated Uncle Sonny's breathtaking programs. He does tshirts banners, invitations and almost anything you can think of. He is located in Ventura, but was born and raised in Bakersfield and made it so simple for us.
We are all heading up to Modesto for our niece, Madisons confirmation and Matthews bday. Brian and a bunch of others will be supporting all those who will be "Running with Robynn" in Sacramento on Sunday in the 3rd annual Shamrock run. They had special shirts made that are too cute and Robynn would just be so tickled. I know she'll be running right beside them. Good Luck to all of "Army Goodell" who will be joining in the fun on Sunday!

Services Scheduled for 9:30 am Thursday

Todays Obit has WRONG time. It is 9:30 Thursday. Please spread the word!

Just a quick note to let you know that flowers are not allowed in the church during Lent. In an effort not to be wasteful, we would appreciate any donations be sent to The Dennis Goodell Memorial Scholarship Fund at Garces High School. This was created 10 years ago after the passing of Uncle Sonny's son Dennis. Our family delights in acknowledging scholar/athletes that are pursuing college dreams.

Uncle Sonny has Flown to Jesus

John 3:3
In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."

Uncle Sonny has been received into His Kingdom. I have no doubt that Robynn was one of the many loved ones anxiously waiting at St Peter's gate. It was exactly what we expected. He was surrounded by loved ones, prayer, comfort, peace and an excitement to see Our Gracious Lord.
His services will be this Thursday at St Phillips church in the morning with a reception to follow at SCC. I will confirm the exact time later. Monica has done a fabulous job on his obituary, which will be in tomorrows paper.
Bradley wanted to thank each one of you personally for the love and prayers you sent to his dad and our family. We soooooo felt them!

You are an Army that I would never want to go up against! I continue to be "In Awe"!

XOXO

Brody's baptism was a wonderful event. He took to that Holy water like a champ and we rejoiced in our newest little Christian:) Immediately following, we all went to the hospital and Father Craig gave Uncle Sonny his Last Rites. He is scheduled to have the ventilator shut off tomorrow around 1pm and Father Swett will be there with us. He is relying almost entirely on the ventilator, so it should be quick and peaceful. Like with Robynn, it will be an intimate affair.

We thank you all for your prayers of support as we face this loss. I wish you understood the depths of our gratitude and the comfort and strength you bring all of us.
You are an Army seated at the right hand of our Gracious Savior.

Love to you all!
